Sea War Museum – Dive into the Wartime History of the North Sea

In the heart of the coastal town of Thyborøn lies Sea War Museum Jutland – a fascinating museum that tells the story of naval warfare in the North Sea during the First World War. The museum is especially renowned for its compelling presentation of the Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle in world history, which took place in 1916 just a few hours' sailing from the west coast of Jutland.

The exhibitions at Sea War Museum offer a close look at both the technology and human drama of the naval war. Here you can experience wreckage from the many sunken ships, original artifacts from life at sea – and, not least, the moving stories of the sailors who never returned home. The museum is presented in a child-friendly language, yet with great respect for history.

Outside the museum, you’ll find the unique Memorial Park for the Battle of Jutland, where 300 granite stones stand – one for each ship lost during the battle. It is a powerful and thought-provoking memorial site, and the park is open around the clock, all year round. Many visitors combine their museum tour with a quiet moment in the park.

Sea War Museum is an ideal destination when the west wind blows and you're looking for shelter and substance. The museum is modern, easy to explore, and well-suited for couples, history enthusiasts, and families with children who want to learn something new during their holiday.
