Sand Sculpture Søndervig – A Unique Experience by the North Sea

If you're on holiday in a cottage by the North Sea, Sand Sculpture Søndervig is one of the most impressive and family-friendly attractions you simply shouldn’t miss. Every year, thousands of visitors come to see this spectacular festival, where international artists transform specially mixed sand into detailed, world-class works of art.

2025 Theme: The History of Greenland

In 2025, the festival theme is The History of Greenland – a visual journey from the early Inuit settlements to modern-day culture and politics. Along a 200-metre-long, 7-metre-high sand wall, and through a series of freestanding sculptures, Greenland’s cultural heritage is brought to life in stunning detail. A creative and captivating way for both children and adults to learn about Greenland.

Activities for the Whole Family

This festival isn’t just for art lovers – it’s packed with fun for children and is a perfect outing during your West Coast holiday. Kids can build their own sculptures in large sandboxes, while parents relax with a coffee at the on-site café. You’ll also find picnic tables, toilets, access for strollers and wheelchairs – and dogs on a lead are welcome too.

A Perfect Summer Holiday Activity

Sand Sculpture Søndervig is open from May to October and is a popular summer holiday activity, especially among families with children. Combine your visit with a trip to the beach, shopping in Søndervig’s local shops, or a walk to Lyngvig Lighthouse – all within walking distance of the festival grounds.
